The
1st or ‘root’ chakra -
located at the base of the spine and associated with the
color red - is generally associated with survival
issues. It contains our imprinting at birth and involves
ideas and beliefs that we come in with – whether we are
conscious of them or not. It also relates to the soul
lessons we are here to learn as well as the image of the
person we are here to be.
The
2nd chakra – located at the
reproductive center and associated with the color orange
– involves issues that revolve around sexual and
personal identity. The second chakra – or portal through
which we enter this life is impacted significantly – to
say the least – by our family of origin.
The way we relate to our gender issues and to our
place in any group has roots in the place we are given
in our family and to the way we react to this initial
situation.
Most of us form our sense of social identity
unconsciously – through the way we react to the
projections placed on us by our family and the way we
perceive our family situation as well as its various
members. Patterns that involve the repetition of
relationship problems generally have their source in
this chakra.
The
3rd chakra or power center is
associated with the color yellow and located around the
navel. It deals with issues surrounding our personal
power and how we use it. It also involves the way we
project our sense of self to others and how they
perceive us based on our ego strength. It is also the
location of instinctive intelligence. In some martial
arts, such as Aikido and T’ai Chi, it is considered to
be the center of awareness. Blockages in the third
chakra usually involve feelings of disempowerment.
The
4th or “heart” chakra
is connected to the color green and clearly involves the
matter of love – both how we give and receive it as well
as how we handle relationships. The fourth chakra forms
a harmonic with the second chakra and transforms passion
to love in a higher sense. It is the birthplace of
compassion and is beautifully portrayed through the
teachings of Christianity. It also coincides with the
fourth sphere on the Kabbalistic Tree of Life –
‘Tiferet’ – which is located at the heart center and
sometimes translated as ‘Beauty’.
The
5th chakra – associated with the color
blue and located around the throat involves issues of
communication and personal expression. Personal
expression involves the freedom to reflect on what we
say and to choose our words as well as to be authentic
The fifth chakra is impacted by our heart (the fourth
chakra) as well as our mind (the sixth) That’s why it is
considered to be the first “conscious” chakra. Blockages
in the fifth chakra invariably involve self repression.
The
6th chakra - associated with the color
violet - is also known as the third eye. It is
correlated with psychic ability as well as the gift of
foresight. It is also considered to be the birthplace of
wisdom or higher intelligence – partly because brain
function is localized here. The third eye is also the
place where Heaven and Earth meet in a symbolic as well
as a physiological sense.
Violet
is the color which is associated with the
7th – or crown chakra.
It is located about 6-7” above the head and is
considered to be a portal to higher consciousness. The
Higher Self is connected with this chakra; and it is
through the Higher Self in each of us that Spirit most
readily speaks. In Jungian psychology, this is the God
image in each of us.
The
8th chakra – located about 6-12 inches
below our feet is associated with our aura. At a Talk
with Spirit, it is associated with the color white
because white contains all the other colors of the
rainbow. In fact the entire auric field is composed of
the electric energy emanating through the seventh chakra
and completing its circuit through the eighth or
magnetic center of the chakra system. In Kabbalistic
understanding, this is the location of our Soul image or
personal ‘Shekinah’ presence. The electro magnetic field
surrounding the physical body extends anywhere from 5-20
or so inches and is associated with the colors of the
rainbow. In the western tradition, it is referred to as
the ‘astral body’. At a Talk with Spirit, we are calling
it the Soul Body. Each person’s aura has variations in
color depending on the chakra/s their Soul is here to
learn from most. The eighth chakra is related to our
personal charisma or magnetism on a soul level. It can
be understood as the ‘vibe’ we give out and varies in
hue and intensity according to our mood
At
A Talk with Spirit, the 9th
chakra is symbolized by pale violet and is
located about 12-18” above the seventh. It is connected
with the living God who reveals Himself in unique ways
through each of us. In the Kabbalah, the ninth chakra
coincides with the first sphere on the Tree of Life –
‘Keter’ or Divine inspiration through Logos.
The
10th chakra is located at the soft spot
at the base of the cranium and is connected with the
color black. In the Kabbalah, this is a secret portal
through ‘Da’at’ or the Shadow in each of us. Now – at A
Talk with Spirit – it is shifting meanings. The tenth
chakra is the place of ‘Indwelling’ – where the soul
enters between 5-6 and 9 months in utero. Once the neo
cortex is sufficiently formed, the Soul can inhabit its
place between Mind and Body as well as between mortal
and immortal experience. The tenth chakra is connected
with the subconscious realm of soul and lunar light –
the seat of Goddess or Eros in each of us. In this
sense, black is associated with the beauty of night and
the light of the stars.
The
11th chakra is symbolized by the color
gold and is the emanation point of our etheric or Spirit
body – also known as the Breath or Chi body in eastern
medicine as well as in Buddhist understanding. It
completes its circuit through the eighth chakra and
forms the etheric sheath surrounding the body. It is
really through the etheric realm that ‘astral’ travel
takes place and through which consciousness has access
to multi-dimensional experience.
At
A Talk with Spirit, the 12th
chakra, is symbolized by white gold and is
associated with the Divine Pair – God and Goddess
together. It is located about 20-28” above the ninth. To
get through, the seeker must pass through ‘Da’at’ -
sometimes known as ego death and meet the challenges of
becoming more than human. |
